High-speed satellite internet like Starlink has transformed rural coordination in Zimbabwe. Field hubs, clinics, and emergency stations in remote districts like Binga, Gokwe, and Chipinge can now access cloud systems instantly.
However, bringing high-speed internet to the main office is only the first step. Distributing that high-speed connection across multiple spread-out field buildings, storage depots, and clinics represents a serious infrastructure challenge.
The Wireless Bridge Solution
Instead of digging expensive trenches and running copper Ethernet cables—which are vulnerable to lightning strikes—NGOs are utilizing Ubiquiti airMAX point-to-point (PtP) wireless bridges.
By installing compact wireless radios (like the Ubiquiti NanoStation or LiteBeam) on roofs, you can beam a highly secure, gigabit-speed signal over miles with perfect line-of-sight. The remote site receives the beam and broadcasts it locally using UniFi Long-Range Outdoor Access Points, providing reliable Wi-Fi across the entire compound.
Secure Communications over Remote Networks
When managing critical health records or aid distribution databases, security is paramount. Field coordinators can configure secure site-to-site VPNs directly through Ubiquiti Gateways, encrypting all field data sent back to the primary office in Harare, ensuring full compliance and absolute security.
